I bring strong leadership, teamwork, and management capabilities to my professional role, supported by a proactive approach to problem-solving and organisational development. Throughout my career, I have demonstrated the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams, adapt to complex and evolving clinical environments, and take initiative in driving service improvement. My focus on managing both resources and people ensures that teams are supported to perform at their best while maintaining efficiency, safety, and high standards of care. These strengths have enabled me to contribute meaningfully to strategic goals, service innovation, and the creation of positive, high-performing clinical environments.
My leadership development is underpinned by formal training, including an Senior Leader MBA from Oxford Brookes University and a Level 7 Senior Leader Apprenticeship with the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), completed with distinction.
I currently serve as a Lead Governor & Clinical Governor for Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, contributing to key governance functions through membership of the remuneration and appointments committee, performance, workforce and finance committee, and PEMQ committee. Nationally, I am a member of the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland Adult Cardiac Subcommittee, and I contribute to strategic advisory groups within Nuffield Health. My leadership roles also include membership of medical advisory committees and oversight of service performance and development across multiple organisations.
A central theme of my work has been the development and implementation of new clinical services and systems that enhance patient care and organisational performance. This includes the successful introduction of regional Standard Operating Procedures for the management of acute aortic syndromes across large parts of the UK, as well as the implementation of several advanced surgical technologies and treatment pathways at the Oxford Heart Centre. I have also established new cardiac surgical services internationally, including programmes for thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension and adult congenital heart disease, and developed outreach and multidisciplinary services to improve access to specialist care. My role as consultant champion for the cardiac surgical database reflects a long-standing commitment to data quality, service monitoring, and continuous improvement.
In addition to clinical leadership, I have held executive and non-executive roles across healthcare, education, and organisational governance. These include Managing Director of a cardiac surgery company, Governor of an educational institution, and participation in innovation, IT, and strategic development committees. I have contributed to national healthcare innovation programs, served as adviser and proctor to medical technology companies, and been recognised for leadership excellence, including receiving the “Leader of the Year” award from Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Earlier in my career, I was actively involved in service redesign, multidisciplinary care pathway development, and representation of medical staff in major international institutions. My experience also includes the establishment of integrated care pathways, restructuring of clinical services, and continuous professional development in management, communication, and leadership.
